Tiinamari Seppänen: Next generation wood-based foams with new additives

Updated: 3 days ago

Foam forming technology enables the use of woodfibers for novel sustainable products to replace fossil-based materials. Doctoral researcher Tiinamari Seppänen from VTT is researching how biobased additives affect fiber foam properties and performance.

Tiinamari re-creates porous structures and tests them with different types of additives like chitosan and citric acid to provide unique properties. Tiinamari is currently on a research exchange at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver. This has been possible by the Boreal Alliance network that promotes doctoral researchers to transform bio-based materials science to sustainable innovations.
