In December 2023 several scientists from Aalto University, VTT and Fortum visited the MAX IV Laboratory in Lund, Sweden to better understand lignin during its recovery.
The research visit was part of the SmartRecovery project funded by Business Finland and supported by industrial partners.
The activities at MAX IV were coordinated by Paavo Penttilä, Academy of Finland Research Fellow at Aalto University who specializes in scattering techniques to study bio-based materials. Previously, Paavo played a key role in organizing and speaking at the workshop "X-ray and neutron techniques for bio-based materials research”, where Finnish researchers were introduced to the opportunities available at MAX IV laboratories and ESS (the European Spallation Source). The workshop, hosted by FinnCERES, was held on November 29th 2023.
