Aayush Jaiswal: Wood-based electronics, optics and cooling systems

Updated: 2 days ago

Meet Doctoral candidate Aayush Jaiswal! He explores new and surprising high value applications from wood.

In his thesis, he covers groundbreaking research on:

1) Recyclable printed electronics

2) Cellulose optical fibers

3) Colour changing optical and passive cooling films for buildings and vehicles.

Cellulose-based recyclable printed electronics enable the reuse of valuable electronic components such as gold, silver, and copper in single-use electronics, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of such devices. Cellulose optical fibers can be used for liquid sensing and health monitoring such as respiratory and heart rate sensors.

The thermochromic (colour changing) films react to changes in ambient temperature and can be used as optical modulators and passive cooling systems that can cool a room up to 5°C without any external electricity input.
